glucose levels

My husband has been advised that he needs anothr blood test as his fasting blood test showed his glucose levels to be 6.1 and he willnot be having another test for two weeks. If he reduces theamount of sugar he has in his hot drinks will this reduce his glucose levels please.

Fasting means just that .. no food or drink other than water for the fasting period stated. If he is following those instructions, anything consumed in his usual diet before the fasting period starts should not have influence on the test results ...well, an allday binge on Mars Bars might adjust something as will enforced starvation. He should eat normally up until the start of the fasting period so that the test will be valid and give proper results.

I meant if he reduced his sugar intake for two weeks, not just the day before the test. I have it in mind if I can persuade him to reduce his sugar intake permanently then it might keep his glucose level down. Thank you for replying anyway, although I do know what a fasting diet means

I think Hobs is suggesting that your husband doesn't alter his diet at all until his next fasting blood test, so that he gets an accurate picture of what his blood glucose levels are with his present lifestyle. If the next test comes out too high, it is then the time to make the necessary adjustments to diet, exercise, etc.

There's lots of good advice on here to help you if it comes to that. Good luck to you both!

Thanks for your advice we will be making enquiries and are grateful to this forum
