The answer to that depends a little. There are phone apps that will pick up a signal from a constant glucose monitor and display the info on the phone. The phone isn't doing the reading, the CGM is. The phone is really just the display, and the app isn't doing any direct measuring. Many people use these (I'm not one of them), and from all reports they seem to work quite well.
On the other hand, there are things being advertised - I'm thinking of the watches etc that claim to read glucose levels - which to my mind are simply a scam. There are several threads about these elsewhere on the forums. I can't think of anyone who's come back with a story of how well whatever it is, is working.
