I am concerned about the accuracy of my meter.

Got up 05:50, took a test - 8.8
Travelled to work
took a pre-breakfast test - 10.8

Is that possible?

I have consumed - 3 Angina pills and a glass of water - nothing else.

They are not totally accurate. They can be as much as 20% out so these readings are possible. The higher the numbers, the more the inaccuracy.

My level always rises a bit after I get up. Not by as much as that by initial level is lower. It seems to be common.

What did you have the day before?

I am newly diagnosed so still learning. Potatoes is something that is not recommended from what I have read?

Yes potatoes are best avoided together with bread, pasta and rice - according to the direct experiences of most T2s on here.

BG levels can go up and down due to body biochemistry, activity, all sorts of things - it's not just due directly to food intake. Also the meters are not fully accurate (most readings within 10% but could be up to 20%) so you may just have hit a couple of outliers with your two readings. It's averages and trends that really matter.
