A short piece but interesting even though it is way off commercialisation.

"A team of engineers at the National University of Singapore and Singapore's Institute of Microelectronics is developing an alternative approach that takes advantage of new microfluidic techniques. In a continuous and controlled process, the researchers created small droplets of polymer that encapsulated pairs of fluorescing molecules. These microbeads can be added to cell cultures where, in the presence of glucose, they emit a stronger fluorescent signal."

Nearly two decades ago I used to be the inhouse Editor for the journal "Biosensors & Bioelectronics" how little did I know that some of those papers I sorted out led to development of practical cheap personal meters... feel a tingle that I might have helped moved things along back then... but curiously even though I saw prototype meters never used one on me... might have been OK back then tho... 8)
