glucose test

it was a tin of stew with gravy and just roughly 4 small pieces of potato in it

Ah, that might explain things then. Before you buy anything tinned like that, check the nutrition label on the tin or packet. Look for the Total Carbohydrates (ignore the "of which sugars". It is the total carbs that must guide you. I bet your tin had loads of carbs in it - in the gravy and in the spuds.

I'd imagine it was nearly all carbs as they are basically a tin of thickeners with a few bits of veg and meat in. I'd suggest buying some shin beef ( it's usually cheap) , cubing it, browning it in pan with some onions, few carrots, mushrooms, bit of diced swede. Add a bayleaf, sprinkle mixed herbs, tablespoon of gravy granules and a stock cube, season with pepper, bring to boil , then reduce to simmer for few hours till tender. You could portion this out and freeze it in tubs and it would be far better for your BS than a tin and you'd actually get a decent portion of meat. Serve with steamed savoy cabbage or other green veg.

I may have asked you before Ally, so apologies if that's the case. Do you have a smart phone, you can run apps on?

peacetrain, i hadn,t thought of sugar free jelly
Sugar free jelly is fab for us ally ! I have mine with cream for lchf!! I'm ok with strawberries if I have cream too, fat in the cream helps with the sugar in strawberries!!

i,m worried, just taken my BS lever and its gone up to 19.8, i havn,t eaten anything since lunch time

Don't worry Ally. Wash your hands then test again. It could be a rogue reading. What did you have for lunch and have you drunk anything in between?

for lunch i had 2 boiled eggs and a tomato and during the afternoon i had 2 cups of black tea with no sugar and water

Did you test again to make sure it was not a bad result?
I have read that coffee can raise your BG but hate the stuff so have no experience.

chicken soup, it hasn,t been this high for a few weeks

Just the soup or did you have bread with it? What was your pre soup reading?

How many carbs does it say were in the soup? I looked at Heinz and it is 4.5g carbs per 100g - what sized can did you have?
