What meter do you have?

It seems like your meter may be giving you an estimate of your HbA1c in terms of your average blood glucose levels. If that is the case then have a look at this page http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-to-blood-sugar-level-converter.html and enter 6.8% in the DCCT value which will give you an average of 8.2 mmol/l

edit: Just to add I havent seen any meter that does this without giving you your individual measures

Just read the manual (online) for the rx and I cant see any mention of percentage so are you sure it is 6.8% or is it 6.8mmol/l? Additionally I do not understand why your nurse would tell you your level should be below 5 mmol/l that is just plain incorrect!

Fasting 4 - 7 and post prandial less than 8.5 although I think my nurse said 10 for the latter. My meter though is usually gives higher readings than others.
