Hello I have just got the Medtronic pump, the 300 unit pump, i feel it's quiet big, I know it's all new and I'm going to have mixed emotions until I get used too it. ( I am very happy I have a pump) how do other people find the Medtronic pump and where do you out the pump on you? Also any tips about the pump itself or pumping?
Also what insurance do people use for their pump?

Hiya, I'm on the Animas Vibe pump. Love it, it's been lifechanging for me, and many other diabetics.
I either clip mine to my jeans pocket or waistband on my trousers, though recently I've been using my spibelt more and more; it's handy and comfortable to wear around my waist and doesn't run the risk of being dropped when I go to the loo. ;)

At night I wear the spibelt or clip it onto my PJ top. I have let it free roam round the bed once or twice, but with a dog that shares the bed, I don't relax in case something happens it.

There's a book that often gets mention in the DOC and is said to be excellent read for those who are new to insulin pumps, it's called Pumping Insulin by John Walsh & Ruth Roberts.
 
Hi

I've used a Medtronic Veo for the past 4 years but used various makes of pump for about 14 years. I've had no problems with the Veo,

I wear mine clipped to my waistband the majority of the time using the clear plastic clip that comes with it. If I need to wear a dress then I either clip it down one side of my bra or wear in in the small of my back.held in place with some big lycra granny knickers! Works a treat ;).

The first few days you are aware the pump is there but pretty soon you just forget about it for the majority of the time. You can order infusion sets with different length tubing if you want to clip it further away from the cannula. The Medtronic pump menu is well laid out and the Medtronic help line is really helpful with any questions or problems you might have.

I've put my pump on my household insurance as a specified item, there are various companies that specialise in pump insurance but my house insurance gave me a reasonable quote.

Good luck going live with insulin, it is a big change but worth the effort to get your basal rates and carb ratios correct. I'm sure you won't look back once everything is sorted.:)

Staff illness :( I was so so excited! Now don't know if I'm going to be going live this year or not. At least I will be even more appreciative of it when I finally lay my hands on it!

Hi there I'm new on here but been a type 1 diabetic for 23 years now. I've considered an insulin pump and I've heard good reports. Are there any negative ones ?
I go to the gym regularly each week and I go into the sauna and do a few lengths in the pool
Can the pump be removed for activities like this ? I'm not sure how it works
People's advice and experiences shared would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I'm going live on tue 11th nov! ( should have been jan but it's came now ) I'm going on the same as you but the mini be interesting to see how you get on too, I'm very excited but also nervous been diabetic for 36 year . All the best to you look forward to hearing how things are good luck x
 
Simon hand I got told the pump can be disconnected for an hour if that helps, but I Aldi think as long as it's safe and secure you can carry on as normal :) x

Hey guys sorry for the late reply, was a little up and down but already I can positively see the difference with my controls and how easy and more flexible the pump is. Only been on the pump a week and going well so far :-) good luck with starting the pump next week x
 
Hi good luck with your new pump,going to uclh tomorrow as they now feel that I should be fitted with a pump and it should have been fitted a long time ago due to the swinging readings ,have spoken with the diabetic specialist nurse who is going to discuss the correct pump for my needs and she told me that once they have decided which pump is going to be the most effective pump that it will take about 3weeks to arrive and they will see me regularly until they are happy and that I understand what I have to do to keep blood sugars under control,I was originally told that I had type 2 then I asked again was told that I had type 1and recently having spoken with the professor who insisted that I have a pump fitted without delay she told me that I was neither one or the other giving her cause for concern,I would be interested to find out how you get on with the pump and has it become more effective than the injections.
