Type 2 Going into hospital

not being able to get around due to opp going wrong, waiting to be put right
Hi , I am going into hospital in 3 weeks for a replacement reconstruction knee operation and want to know what my sugar levels should be as it was cancelled before as my sugar levels were very high they are now between 4-7 twice daily taken , also not sure what to have as snacks, any one advise me, thanks
 
They should be between 4-7 and the last time I was in hospital I got wrong for taking food in as they like to see what you are eating and drinking and make sure that you are not eating more than you should be as if you need anything they normally give it to you so that they can also keep track of your sugars as you will be on a insulin and saline drip before you even get anywhere near the operating room so that they have full control of your sugars and you will be nil by mouth at that until you are back on the ward and you will be given something to eat and that is to make sure that you are able to keep it down and you have no side effects of the anesthetic and something to drink and that is even before you can do anything for yourself all you probably will need is your medication and blood meter and everything else you need for your diabetes

Hi. I had a general anaesthetic in hospital last week. At my pre-op assessment I was told that a hba1c of over 69 would lead to cancellation. On the day, my finger prick bg was 7.8 before the op which is high for me. They said they preferred it this way particularly as I had been fasting for hours. I was allowed to take in my own post-op tea and toast. I was not given any insulin as I am diet and metformin only. Your 4-7 levels sound ideal. I hope your operation goes well :)
