Just wonder if anyone in here has not seen their DSN or D for long time and if so what's the longest and why

Hi I didn't see any DN or specialist .... I was so upset wt the diagnosis (even tho I expected it) I fled from my surgery....

But I am type 2 whereas you are type 1 which is an autoimmune "disease" so you really need a team of specialists guiding you... so do keep your appointments wt these people....

Take care and good luck x

I never saw mine for around 8years. Mostly though because I didnt care at the time and HATED the hospital the diabetic clinic was held at.

I don't have a DSN or a D team and yes am T 1 ....but also medically astute ....dealing with my own care and have been for last 6 months ...
And as have brought down my Hb......don't see it being an issue.....nor did the D team when they meet me... Not that gave em much choice in matter.........
the question was ...how YOU ...As in all of you ....how u find looking after your own care......
Do u study up
Are you looking in to everything u can
Or- you know your body...your units are right an ya keep bg in check most of the time

Have you tried the team at Darent Valley? I know the team there are good (personal family experience) or even PRU?

Bit to far for me...on walking sticks all time .... Am. Moving house as feel the med care in this area is one of the worst I have ever seen ....so much so I have put house up 9 months after I moved in ........
It's really that bad !!! ...

Any back to the question ..... How long is the longest for you not seeing a D team

Ah well my sister is T1 and I believe she has appointments every 4-6 months (i could be wrong there but they are very good!) my son was only diagnosed with T1 in Dec so we are on every 3 months with our first one in first week of Feb.

I took myself out of D clinics for a couple of years until I needed something the GP couldn't provide because I disliked the clinic and didn't feel it was worth wasting my time on. Hba1C was done through the doctor and was in the target range so no real need to see them, and I'd been carb counting for 20+ years.

My diabetes care has been dealt with by my GP practice for years now until I myself started really taking control of my diabetes and the doctors in my local surgery were unable to answer my questions...so I got a referral to the local Diabetes Clinic. It took best part of a year to get the referral but when I did finally get an appointment a couple of months ago...I didn't find it as useful as I'd hoped and actually I found quite a lot of the information I received to be just ridiculous really. While they were pleased with my recent Hba1c and cholesterol results they were less than impressed with my low carb diet and insisted that carbs should form a substantial part of my diet...all in all...while I will continue to keep my appointments...I find the information on this site to be far more useful.

3/4 years i think, they stopped sending me appointments after my consultant appt was cancelled, never got rearranged so i just never bothered to contact them. i did eventually to tell them ive not see a consultant for a few years and they got me an appointment now being seen every year again. i did attend the gp diabetes nurse in that time tho.

Depends on how it's all going , normally good I go every 6 months but when I was having cholesterol problems it was every 2 months. Nominally it should be every 3 months here (something to do with health insurance). I find 6 months a little too long as I can easily lose motivation for 4 months and it not show up on the HBA1C test.
