Going on holiday

First get something to store your insulin in. I recommend the frio pouches, google it and there is a range. It keeps things cool

Work out how much you need to take of all your supplies, then double it. You don't want to risk running out.

Get a letter to allow you to take needles through the airport.

Be aware that heat can increase insulin absorption so you may go hypo more quickly. Be conscious of it and test.

Stay well hydrated

And have fun!

Heat is likely to lower you bg so keep coke or similar handy. Also turkey being hot you might want to look for a cooling pouch for insulins. Dont put any insulin in the hold of the plane it can freeze.

Remember travel insurance but it doesnt need to be specialist - just declare diabeties :)

Take dextrose tablets or something similar and keep these on you at all times (so you can deal with any hypos). Also I you have space in your suitcase maybe some cereal bars too so you have something with more complex carbs in to eat too (in the past I've treated nighttime hypos with dextrose and cereal bars to keep my sugar from going low again).

I always use London Vic.... ( am I allowed to say that? Sorry if I'm not). Like someone else just said as long as you declare your diabetes it should not be more expensive. I got a quote from a charity that supports our condition (mmm) and it was ridiculously high. Enjoy your holiday. Ps the frio is the best thing i ever bought for hot holidays!!
