Have just had my latest HbA1c results and my DN is amazed and delighted  Now down to 41mmol/l so within the 'normal' range thanks to LCHF eating. BMI out of the obese category, blood pressure normal and weight coming down steadily. The only problem on the face of it was my cholesterol level which has risen from 5.4 to 5.7 and came with the advice to put me on statins (I declined). Because of the great information on this website I knew to ask for a break down of my cholesterol readings. Turns out my HDL has risen from 1.2 to 1.9 (good), non HDL reading has dropped from 4.1 to 3.8 (below 4 is good) and my ratio of HDL to non HDL is 3 (below 4.5 is good). So although on the surface of it my total cholesterol readings don't look good, analysing the break down shows all is well and improving. Just goes to show that it pays to know what questions to ask and how to read the answers. Thanks to all for your advice from one happy 'recovering' diabetic!:angelic:

Well done. Really good results, and your cholesterol readings are great support for others on the LCHF journey.

Well done!

Ate you losing weight? Cholesterol often rises during weight loss, then drops again a few weeks after the weight stabilises.

Well done on those ratios!

Thanks all for your kind words and forum friendship - couldn't have done it without you! Yes still have weight to lose but will do it steadily. Going back for more cholesterol testing in 3 months time so am going to try and cut back a bit on the cheese and cream and up the oily fish etc though tbh am not too worried. Would like non HDL levels to go down a bit but as long as they remain below 4 I think that's fine!

Well done on those results Mongolia.

I would urge you not to be too hasty changing anything in your diet if it is suiting you. Professor Sikaris has made numerous presentations, which are loaded on YouTube. He talks a load of sense on Low Carb and lipids.

Enjoy!
