Good diabetic care in London? Private or NHS

Hi there

I have been a diabetic for 15 years, now on pump therapy (for the last 5) I come from Worcester in the Midlands and had outstanding care with the hospital with the nurse seeing me every month, making sure I was ok etc.etc. I moved to London 3 years ago and realise that there are more pump patients and that time is an issue, but I have to call the hospital to make my own appointments, ask them is they want me to have blood tests, the answer is normally vague and 'we'll contact you' which they never do! my last appoinment, where I told my diabetic nurse that I generally feel tired and sickish nearly everyday and could I perhaps change insulin, or see what may be causing it, she said and I quote 'well, feeling like this is the price you have to pay for diabetes'!!! I am hitting my head against a brick wall, my HBA1C is in the 9's!

I am willing to go private, although my GP suggested a clinic that want to charge £900 for an initial consultation and 1 blood test and then £300 for every appointment after that! I personally think this is ridiculous, can anyone suggest whether they get good care and where? Private (cheaper) or NHS in London?

Many thanks

Heidi

Can we remind Members that the locations and names of Practices/GP's etc should not be posted on the open board. They would have to be deleted from posts. If you wish to mention such things then please do so via the pm system only.

I think its 'pot luck' I to asked if I could go private jus due to time, I think the costs are roughly the same! but your nurses answer is appalling!! can you try and bring your levels down using the pump?
(sorry as dont have pump)
I'm from the south east, I really dont see whats wrong with naming locations, i'm quite prepared to go to court and evidence what I say

my mother used to travel from the south to the north for her DB care, cant travel now but has found a really good Dr

good luck with it

Heidi,

Sounds like your diabetes nurse is uncaring and disinterested in giving the appropriate advice, ask your gp to refer you to the hospital diabetes clinic and demand that you are seen by the consultant there.

This Forum has it's own rules to protect people from false allegations, Libel and Slander. All people. The Forum Administrator makes the rules here. The naming of HCP's and specific locations is simply not allowed.

That is the Policy on this Forum.

Thanks both Ewan and Nigel - I'm finding my situation is not that uncommon in terms of dis-interest to patients! I will be asking to be referred elsewhere and hopefully see an improvement.

Many thanks
