Hello Everyone

I have been diabetic for just over three months now and just had my results for my first HbA1c after my initial diagnosis.

Just a message from the receptionist, but assuming going from 10.1 to 7.1 is good improvement!?!?

There is still work to do but feel so much better in myself and have also lost 3 stone.

Just thought I'd share my good news, especially for those first diagnosed because it feels so overwhelming. I was a chocaholic/cakeaholic/crispaholic, lol so if I can make the changes anyone can, its not easy and it is still work in progress but I'm getting there.

Thanks to this site and fab members for all the info and advice it has been such a great help.

Thank you

Donna x

Great news Donna keep it up

That's a change from an 'average' blood sugar level of 15.7 to 9.8

And I'm sure it's going to go lower ! Well done

Hi and well done i was diagnosed only very recently having been borderline for the last 3 years i started low carb and portion control on monday and have lost 2lbs in my first 4 days i feel better already i cant believe just a few days have made a difference i dont feel tired at work and seem to have more energy , and i dont know if anyone else has ever experienced this but ... i went to bed the other night to watch tv and i could read the sky banner thingy at the bottom of the screen without my glasses !!!! no blur wierd :|

gally, high sugars can make your vision blurry or make your eyesight change over the day. Mine has definately improved after diagnosis and if I let my numbers stray, I will have trouble focusing. So makes sense. Well done on making a decision to take charge - good luck with your approach.

Thanks everyone, I'm off to celebrate with a pack doughnuts ...... ha ha ha just kidding

Well done Gally, it does make a huge difference, I used to sleep at the drop of a hat.

Cool, well done.

I was diagnosed about 3 months ago. I had lost 3.5 stone ( I was trying but it was dropping of way faster than it should) drinking gallons of anything I could get my hands on, peeing every 20 minutes. Blurred vision you name it..

I am a ex nurse I should have know what it was (ok I did but I didn't want to admit it).

I went to my GP as I had lost weight and stopped smoking and wanted rid of the statin. GP was great and agreed I was doing the right thing but wanted to run some tests. Tests first thing in the morning, phone call in the evening. Hi Tony your cholesterols headed the right way but your diabetic big time pop down and get a script (we had already had a long chat about the likely outcome and treatment options).

So there I was HbA1c 14.9 and headed for the door to sample a few pints of Jaipur, happy to know what was wrong with me but boy am I going to miss the sweet things in life!

Well its a few months later due my review at the end of the month, already know the HbA1c is 6.9 so happy with that. I do have the odd cheat and I got married on the 5th of this month so the careful diet was out of the window.

I have to say everything moved very quickly, retinopathy scan, dietitian (worse than useless) chiropody etc all within 10 days of diagnosis.

Sorry to hijack your thread.............

Well done and keep it up.

My thanks as well to the contributors in here some great advice. I know one of my friends is also a great fan of this forum.

That's an amazing weight loss Donna. i thought I was doing well with 1 1/2 stone. And well done with the Hb1ac too.
Keep it up (or should that be down?)

Well done Donna

I found my eyes where a lot better after I was diagnosed and adjusted the amount sugar I was eating but it didn't last unfortunately Went back to normal after a couple of weeks but good while it lasts

Yes, well done indeed everyone!

As I get into this more the one single fact i seem to be getting more clearly than any other is that dropping your carbs down has dramatic and rapid results. So many people finding their BG levels plummeting in a few days. I know that's not the end of the story - far from it - but it is very encouraging to know you have the means to control your BG.
