I saw my diabetic nurse this morning and she gave me a meter and prescription for test strips and lancets without any problem.

My reading when she showed me how to work it was 9.5, which is a bit of a worry as I hadnt had breakfast. But at least now I will know what food affects me, I will hopefully be able to get it under control.

She is also sending me on a course at the hospital, I think she called it Spotlight. Apparantly it is two two hour sessions and there will be a dietician, chiropodist and a specialist diabetic nurse there. Hopefully that will help me to find out a lot.

She did say that because of my IBS she wouldnt risk giving me Metformin, that she would try me on something else first, when the time comes that I need medication. For now she is happy for me to continue with diet control and see how it goes.

It was another appointment where I came out feeling mentally worn out, but seemed to have positive outcomes.

Thanks for all your help and advice. No doubt I will be back with more questions and maybe one day I will be able to start answering other peoples questions.

Claire,

Lucky girl, you seem to have got the VIP treatment!

I live in Lincoln. My diabetic nurse does seem to be really good and willing to do anything necessary to help me.

I moved just a year ago from another part of Lincoln and had to change Doctors. I wasnt happy with this, as my old surgery was excellent. The Doctors at my new surgery have yet to impress me. But the nurses seem really good, especially as I say the diabetic nurse. So hopefully I will be ok there. She is going to see me every month until I get everything under control and then it will go down to every 3 months.

Something is wrong with the sites parser, as it always converts dospaments to dospaments

You will have to convert dospaments to dospaments yourself

Wow can I get it right this time.

it always converts d o c u m e n t s to dospaments

In the url you will have to convert dospaments back to d o c u m e n t s yourself

Remember to remove the spaces between the letters

I'm doing a diabetic course in April :) Its called Dafne and it lasts a week and they teach you how to count carbs and match the insulin to the foods they also teach you about excercise and nutrition :)

Hi Jodie,

According to the Dafne website their course is exclusively for Type 1s and before they will allow you to register online you have to complete a disclaimer stating that you are either type 1 or a medical practitioner. However, I don't see why it wouldn't also be relevant to a type 2 who is on insulin and therefore has to measure carbs.

Any type 2's out there been on a Dafne course?
