Got a cold

Not on meds and not testing and have been eating healthy balanced meals but not today. Teacake for breakfast, porridge for lunch and chicken soup for dinner, oh, and a handful of nuts. Hoe dangerous is a col to me? Can't eat crunchy food as throat hurts.

I had a cold recently first diabetic one for me! It did put my levels up a bit. I drank plenty of fluids and really reduced my carbs to keep them as low as possible. Eating stuff like salmon and veg or omlettes.

I'm currently having my first cold as diabetic too and it has bumped my sugar levels up, struggling to get them below 10. So have increased my basal and nova rapid insulin and they are slowly coming down. Drink lots! Hope you feel better soon :)

Still got cold five days on. Do not test so I do not know if my bg is raised and do not know about that ketone thing. Doc wanted me to diet my way healthier! Have to confess I have not been eating much. Am doing three meals a day but mostly soft foods like soup and scrambled eggs and tomato. I feel fine but now have raging conjunctivitis in left eye and right eye looking like it may also go the same way. I had my retinopothy test yesterday and the drops were placedcin my lower lids rather than being squeezed in without touching so I do not know if the test or my colmd has brought this on. Feeling sorry for myself as have not left house since last Sunday apart from being taken to and fro in a car yesterday for my test. Colds often turn into chest infection so taking no chances and keeping warm. Feel good and am sleeping through the night without need to go to the loo and not feeling weary or thirsty. Unable to get freah food in but I have lots of cartons of healthy veg soups and will centure out after the weekend to buy my usual fresh stuff.

What would I do to check ketones or bg? I do not test so have no equipment or know how. I am not peeing too much and not feeling unwell apart from feeling like I have four leaky taps attached to my face! Lol - what do I need to look out for? I do not know if I need to bother doc about this, or not. Thanks

Panic over. Just looked up ketones and I don't have any symptoms. I have had carbs and am resting so no chance of me running out of fuel. I am just into the diabetic range so not given meds or advised to test. I am well hydrated and my eyes aren't blurry, just watering a lot. My breath is normal and I don't feel fatigued. I am eating carb and protein and getting veg in soup but normally I eat lots of fresh fruit and veg and I eat a bit more normally, and in a more balanced manner, but as I am not out and about and burning off calories I guess it is good that I am eating a bit less than normal. Having been as good as gold since diagnosis I guess I am feeling guilty because I am not eating as well as I would normally. My apetite did improve a little today, so I had some nuts and a banana! I sat staring at the bananas all week but couldn't summon up enthusiasm for eating any! Must be getting better. Thanks for all the info and support x

How are you doing now, Dyezeegal?

I'm in the same position as you wrote about and have had to take throat lozenges and Lemsip max...but it's not hitting the spot. I've been taking them since last Friday.

I am now constantly blowing and coughing up thick green stuff (Sorry...too much information).
