Got my hba1c result today

34 or 5.3%

Think I'm in control of it now 13 months post diagnosis. Don't feel as pleased as I should - not sure why really but I'm doing ok.
Congratulations and well done! A superb job! Lots of people will take heart from stories like yours. I agree with coldethyl, it's a bit like the Hundred Years' War. You do all that hard work but you still have to keep going!
Best wishes for the future. :-)

Wow that is amazing....

What were your HbA1c levels 13 months ago of you do not mind me asking...

I had my first readings this week 102 ouch... I am probably 1stone overweight, generally have wholemeal product rarely eat sweets/chocolate, exercise 3 times a week...
so dubious to what losing a stone and cutting carbs will do...

Losing a stone and cutting carbs might lower your blood glucose levels. Why are you dubious? The only way to find out is to try it. What have you got to lose?

Just as I have family members who are not overweight and diabetic since their 20s...

Dubious as about 8 years ago I lost 4stone... and remained static more or less since then and I wasnt diabetic then.

If I have carbs probably 4tbsp of rice, similar amount of pasta, or a small sweet potato... carbs have been in the past generally brealfast so after trial on weetabix/porridge last 2 days i am going to do omlette tomorrow.

I am going to try everything that may help me not need medication.

Well, I don't know of any other way to lower blood glucose without meds other than cut carbs, lose weight, and exercise. However, if that doesn't work there is no shame in going on meds. You may consider inquiring with your doctor about metformin. I was on it and it may have helped right after I was diagnosed. Eventually I got off it with a low carb diet, weight loss, and exercise.

I was diagnosed with a reading of 57 or 7.4% in Oct 2013.

In terms of exercise and diet I've been told that it's 90% diet and 10% exercise. Although it's crucial not to be sedentary.

Try reducing carbs - you'll soon lose a stone and won't be more hungry than normal.
