Got my results in

I not only got into remission by going low carb but I reduced my triglycerides too. And lost 5.5 st while eating cheese and double cream. It sounds like your GP doesn't keep up with the NICE NHS advice or read any research?

I have a Glucorx nexus meter, but I've had it a while so there may be better options.

When I spoke to my gp today doc said I dont need mete that currently diabetes is reversible and not worth the expense and that I just need to eat better but not said how and to lose weight but not said how much when I asked he said doing a little excersis should help and not to lose weight to quickly but that didnt answer my question so he wasnt very helpful at all

Ok so looking at those results your triglycerides look pretty high and your HDL rather low. I'm guessing you are eating a fairly high carb diet?
Had you fasted before having the blood taken? If so for how long?

In about months time after eating a LCHF diet it might be worth getting a retest and see how you are doing.. don;t forget to water fast for about 12-14 hours before the blood is taken for the test.

If that HbA1c figure is on a regular diet, then I reckon you've got this sorted going low carb higher fat. If you want to lose weight, then don't overcompensate with the fat, though.

I have two meters at the moment, as well as running Libre sensors for 8 weeks or so over the last few months. In a way, I can understand why GP's try to discourage home testing, since the error margins on these devices are so awful, even between different strips on the same meter, that the figures are all but meaningless.

Meters-wise, I'm still favouring my GlucoRX-Q over the Tee2+ that I bought to replace it, not just because the Rx-Q gives lower readings, but because its averages are more consistent with my last A1c result. The Tee2+ pretty consistently reads 1mmol/L and sometimes 2mmol/L over the Rx-Q. Which of course makes the difference between sitting comfortably below 8.5, like they tell you to, and straying into the 9's, or possibly higher.

Both are fairly cheap for test strips, though the Tee2+ is cheapest. It's also more modern, with Bluetooth functionality and reasonable phone software. The Rx-Q has a rather dated PC app, which needs an old style USB (Mini B, not Micro B) cable to connect. They both work equally well as stand-alone meters. I actually find the Rx-Q a little more intuitive to use, and like the illuminating, rather than LCD display.

I'm more than a little dubious about claims of 'reversing' diabetes. It's certainly possible for some people to achieve remission through diet, but if they reverted to eating normally again, they'd no doubt be back into the diabetic range on their A1c fairly quickly. That's managing a condition, not curing it.

That will probably be an HbA1c to confirm your T2 diagnosis.
I'd be surprised if they do another cholesterol test so soon.

Do you test your meals?

There are a couple of meters which are cheap to buy and to use I use the Spirit Healthcare tee 2 meter which seems to have worked well for me - I am told that if you phone up and order some pots of strips they will add a free meter. No harm in asking.....
I went onto the website, signed up, got an email asking me to confirm I am diabetic, and then I could put in an order and not pay the VAT on it.
