Gout and Diabetes

I have suffered with gouty arthritis in my wrists and feet for the past 5yrs which is extremely painful and causes swelling that is hot to the touch. So my question is how can having your feet checked for nerve damage etc. be of any use when I already have a certain amount . I had a foot check a month ago and was told no problems that were down to diabetes can the podiatrist tell this just by looking? I was diagnosed Type 2 over a year ago and this was my second check but my feet are worse now than a year ago.

I have gout in my thumb joint occasionally and some osteoarthritis in my ankle. They are different from each other and different from neuropathy where you tend to lose sensation. In bad cases, you can push a needle into the damaged area and not feel it. You can't do that with gout! You'd hit the roof. Also, the swelling you get with osteoarthritis is very different.

Anti inflamatories get the swelling down but only lots of water will flush the ureaic acid crystals away. Keep the blood pumping by exercise. Difficult to do when you have pain but you have to do the best that you can. Avoid proteins as they cause the crystals to form in the first place.
