Gp has unsettled and confused me !!

Hi Kimbo I started taking Sitagliptin about 18 months ago when my BS levels rose after being put onto statins. I came off the statins due to other side effects about a year ago and my hba1c dropped back to 40. In August my DN and I decided that it might be a good idea to come off the Sitagliptin. I was concerned that my BS would go up but I gave it a try and after 3 monhs of diet only my latest hba1c is 42 -a slight increase but one that both my DN and myself find acceptable. For me it felt as though I was 'flying solo' but I also had the reassurance that I could go back on the Sitagliptin if necessary.

Well done Kimbo, FOUR sizes down, crikey you should be doing a jig for that lol. Must have also cost getting new stuff to wear though.

Yes Eddie. ... trying to just get the vital bits for now as every few weeks things7 are baggy again!! Really aiming to be one Jean size less by April's hba1c then should be time to look at maintaining not losing, the speed I've gone at though it could be 2 less, but I don't desire to be skinny as I'm 6. 2 1/2" and like some shape !!

You've done a superb job so far! I understand your apprehension regarding cessation of medication. I did it gradually. At the end of May I achieved an HbA1c of 35 after reducing my Metformin gradually since February. After the May test I dropped the metformin completely and my November HbA1c was 38. So ... Yes it had risen but it was still in the "normal" range. According to the chart it says test for hypoglycaemia if in this range. I've documented elsewhere that I feel strange once I start getting to 5.2 and below. We are all different, however, and if you feel well then I don't see any problem for you. I've also experienced hair loss so I might try taking some of the advice given here. I have thinning hair anyway, much like my mother and her sister, although 2 other sisters are fine and so is my sister.
Thanks for starting this thread and good luck. :-)

Just a cautionary note on taking Vitamin D ,you need to make sure that your serum calcium is not high because it is dangerous to take Vitamin D if it is

Hello Kimbo.
I lost all my hair three years ago,It was long at the time, one morning I filled a waste paper bin,I had recovered from legionella disease.a few weeks before,I thought it must have been all the drugs I had,but my doctor said it was shock and mothers who have had babies sometimes suffer from hair loss.
My hair is long again now but not as thick as it was.I thought it would have come back gray, but I am still a redhead.

Thank you for that, the advice and support peacetrain! I'm still thinking the whole conversation through in my head, I guess to move off the meds is progress, I just didn't expect the negative vibe from him regarding forxiga. My last hba1c was 38 and I just really don't want to have it higher in April when it's due again!
My hair has always been my "thing", im lucky it's always been fairly thick so it's probably not overly noticeable to anyone else but seeing the amount on my clothes and in the shower just freaks me a little!
We will see what opinion my nurse has on the 30th ; )

Kimbo, I can only see it as pure progress and hope Santa rewards you appropriately. You have got me thinking however, I hope for the day I can withdraw from insulin and constant jabs and finger pricking as I am turning into a tea bag. Lol. Good luck !

Well, I had a busy day yesterday and only realised at bedtime I hadn't taken my forxiga as I normally do on waking......didn't know what effect that would have this morning, tested as normal on waking and 5.1, so no difference (had gone to bed on 4.8) to my recent mornings really!! Obviously I shall continue on my forxiga as planned until this supply runs out and I'm still seeing the nurse on the 30th after my concerns above from seeing my GP last week

Probably one missed dose won't be significant. I don't know about Forxiga, but most drugs accumulate a bit, so it will take more than one missed dose to be out of your system. Good luck with your nurse on 30th.

Seems the missed dose had no effect at all as I was just the same levels all day yesterday, I guess it helps that I am still so pedanticaly adhering to my lchf! Busy day yesterday which included another interview (so much for my 12 weeks off!) This on is a three month contract so fits perfectly for my return to the holiday centre, then I have my dbs check to complete Monday at the homeless centre for the post I am offered there!! I don't know why but three times yesterday I felt a little "woozy" and not right, levels never below 5 though so puzzled- did notice during the night I had a couple of waking up hot and racing again as per my visit to the gp last week, the herbal kalms didn't seem to work to well last night either!

Well that's good Kimbo and congratulations on the new job ! I am having an extremely lazy morning as I am on leave till the 27th Dec. Got cards and some little Prezzies to buy, I've got most of it in. Have a nice day.

Really not too sure which I want most Eddie, the homeless case worker I've been offered is just relief/bank so I would still get some time off before the season kicks off again- I've worked through for 22 months with no breaks, but the 3 month post is guaranteed hours .
Enjoy your shopping.....I have a party to go to at my mums care home (debating on taking my own lchf selection!!)

Congrats limbo, on your new job, hope your nights are more tranquil and you get what you want in your stocking::))

Thanks kimbo, how about the 10 yd dash to the loo :(( the way things are at the mo I'd trample anybody unfortunate to be in the way ::))
