My GP phoned me this morning (Mon 15/8/22) with the results of my blood tests, I have to have my blood checked as I am on Rivaroxaban blood thinners.
About 2 years ago, I was told that I had prediabetes. I bought a test kit to keep an eye on it. When I used to test my blood, the readings were 4.2 to 5.8 which was okay.
I tested my blood today and the reading was 24.2.
I don't know what to do.

Welcome to the forums, I am sorry you have a diabetes diagnosis.

Are your test strips still in date? That is quite a high reading but it may not be accurate if your test strips are out of date.

Did your doctor give you a figure for your hba1c? (This is a measure of your blood sugar over the last 3 months and a non diabetic would be less than 48).

I am guessing that your GP will want you to come in to discuss treatment options. Depending on your hba1c levels he/she may or may not want you to start medication.

There are plenty of T2s on these forums to give you advice and moral support but I think your first action should be to make an appointment with your GP. Many of the T2s on here have achieved significant reductions in blood glucose levels by reducing the carbohydrate in their diet, so that may be an option for you to consider.

Good luck, and once again welcome.

Hi Elliem.
I took heed of your advice regarding expired test strips. I ordered more, they came today. My new reading is
11.8, still high, but not as bas as 24.

That must be a relief. That is a massive difference. Hopefully your GP will give you an hba1c value, but those are levels which are much easier to reduce than ones of 24 .... :)

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis Vangellis but you've come to the right place. I got diagnosed about six weeks ago and also didn't know what to do at first but you'll find a lot of great advice on here. Good luck.

Hi Vangellis1, Firstly welcome to the forum.
I'm also a type2 and when I joined this forum a few weeks ago also had readings around the 10-12 mark. I personally am trying the low carb diet and it's amazing the difference it is making, my readings are mostly between 5 - 7.5 now. There is loads of info around the forums on the low carb diet so have a read around the forums and see if you can lower or cut out bread, potatoes, pasta etc meat and above ground grown veg is good for you.

Test when you first wake up, before meals and 2 hours after you eat, this will show you what spikes you.

This is a great place to be and you'll find lots of help and support here.

Looking forward to reading more of your posts :)

I also had readings of 10 to 11 about 7 weeks ago and after doing the low carb diet they are mostly 6 to 7 now. Even had a few 5.7.
Welcome Vangeis 1 to the forums.
