Type 2 Gps

Hello Everyone. I have been following and reading this forum since a diagnosis of Type 2 in Nov 2015. My diagnosis was hba1c of 102 , cholesterol 5.2, weight 13 stone 4.
I was feeling very unwell and had been for some time, I was also eating many processed foods sweets and chocolate. this forum has been a life saver for me, thank you all so very much. I was given 3x metformin a day and gluclazide in the beginning. It was a rough journey with blood sugars up and down changing my diet to low carb and becoming active again. Gradually over 6 months with the persistent use of a blood glucose machine I have reduced all my numbers. My last 2 hba1cs are 41, I take no medication anymore, cholesterol 3.2, and I weigh 10stone 4.
What has really upset me today is that I have a copy of my medical notes, and shocked by what my GP has written on them with regard to my insistence that I do not need medication.
I have followed this forum, done a lot of research and also followed the work of Antony William The Medical Medium and it is working for me. I'm just sharing as trying to process how I feel right now. I'm not sure I've posted in the right place here, apologies if It is in the wrong part of the forum

Hi @JaneKennedy ,

Seems to me that you're doing pretty well right now!

General Practitioners are not specialists and many people on these forums have to take GP's opinions with a pinch of salt.

Your a1c's are great - keep on keeping on. :)

Hi. Well done and what you have achieved. You are now at pre-diabetic levels and there appears to be no need for any diabetes medication. I would challenge the GPs comments and even ask for them to be removed as they appear to go against NICE Diabetes Guidelines on managing blood sugar. He/she may be talking about statins which is your choice to have and there are many questions about their use anyway and GPs financially benefit when they prescribe them.

Sorry, you don't say what your GP's notes say - I believe the position on Metformin is to keep taking it. I'm doing that and don't see a problem doing so, it helps a bit, and might stop a spike going from 7.5 to 8 every once in a while, or keep your HbA1c down from 42 to 38.

Some medical professionals still have this paternalistic view and would feel a bit peeved that you're not taking their advice. I think in general, most patients DON'T know best - asking for anti-biotics for viruses, believing in mediums and other charlatans, etc.

What are the actual words used?

The GP has every right to record that you are not following his advice, if you choose not to, so long as it is simply a statement of fact.
He has guidelines to follow, he is obliged to prescribe the course of treatment, which, in his professional opinion, will be the best course for you.
He will have to defend that opinion if ever needed, so if you are on a different course, he is obliged to record why.

Hi thank you everyone I've had some time to think about what the GP has written( the reason I have a copy of my notes is due to an accident last year ). It was a telephone conversation and this is what he has written on my medical notes....."discussed the improving diabetes..... Now has decided wants to come off metformin because wants to reverse the diabetes...as she has been reading...adv strongly to remain on small dose metformin starting hba1c was 102! Suggests severe insulin resistance but pt is adamant ...and there are obviously too many clever people out there telling everyone that diabetes can be cured as opposed to controlled."
Having detached myself and reread I can see where the GP is coming from, however I will continue to prove him wrong! Thank you

I know I do not want to medicate my body if It does not need it, but I am also aware that it is there if I need it. Metformin did not agree with me, so it's not for me, but I have discussed other options if needed with my nurse.
