My Dad (T2, 70yrs old) had bleeding in his eyes- I'm assuming diabetic retinopathy. He went to get one eye lasered today; there will be another treatment on that eye in January, and the other eye is getting done in two weeks. If anyone with experience in this area has any stories or advice, I'd love to hear it.
Sorry to hear the news about your Dad @Geordie_P Proliferative retinopathy is where the new blood vessels that have grown in the eye start to haemorrhage, often laser is used to pre-empt them bleeding (to shrink the vessels) or is used after the vessels have haemorrhaged and the blood has dispersed, I've had laser treatment myself for retinopathy and whilst it's not nice to have the treatment it is an effective treatment nonetheless. Without saying anymore I'll let you have a look at the following website as it has a wealth of information and advice on the condition ( note what it says about keeping bg,bp and cholesterol levels under control which helps when you have diabetic retinopathy): http://www.diabeticretinopathy.org.uk/proliferative.html Best wishes.
