Hi Tezza

I am also on Statins and was never told to avoid grapefruit.

Do the two not mix? Is it just grapefruit or all citrus fruits?

Many thanks Sue.

I am on rosuvastatin, which I am relieved to read does not interact with grapefruit juice.
Still I used to be on simvastatin so I am amazed i was never warned.

im on simvastatin, had toast for breakfast ,coffee, did not know anything about grapefruite untill i read about it on this site.very glad i did. :D

Just to put it in plain English: there is a chemical in grapefruit that slows down the breakdown of simvastin. This means that it would be possible to end up with an overdose of simvastin in the system - but you would need to have a fair amount of grapefruit for this to become dangerous.

What I do - but not necessarily recommending it to others - is to not have grapefruit at home - but if put in a position where it isn't an option (eg this weekend I was served Florida cocktail with no alternative choice) - I eat the grapefruit and miss my simvastin that night

Hey there I was told straight away, it also says it in the medic instructions with the tablets as well.

I've been on Simvastatin for years and have only seen a warning on the instruction leaflet in the past few months, was never told to avoid grapefruit by doctor or nurse. I guess the problem with grapefruit and some statins has only recently come to light.

When I was first prescribed Simvastatin, I was advised NOT to eat or drink anything to do with Grapefruit. I was then changed over to Rosuvastatin, I was told the same. If you take any of the statins, its is HIGHLY reccomended that you avoid Grapefruit like the plague..... No big issue for me as I cant stand the sruff anyway

Has anyone tried vodka and ruby grapefruit juice? Neither have I since the appearance in my life of Atorvastatin.    It was delicious she said, weeping gently.
