Feeling very pleased, had a telephone conversation with my GP’s Practice Pharmacist recently and found that I am OK to continue with no meds. My most recent Hba1c was 40, I had Covid in late Feb and very nearly died, my Hba1c just after leaving hospital had been 76.
I lost 18lbs in 10 days while in hosp and have lost another 18lbs since, the result of an intense diet and exercise programme with a Personal Trainer.
The pharmacist said that they will arrange another Hba1c in March and, if the result is as good as the last one, I will be considered as being in remission, still monitored by the practice, but not considered to be Diabetic.
One thing that came from the phone call was a bit of a concern, prior to my hospital admission I had been on Metformin, when I left hospital I was prescribed Gliclacide, which I presumed to be a replacement for the Metformin, I had been on a single annual Hbaic test, with no home testing, but after leaving hosp, I was asked to test before and after meals, I had several very low tests and, with the Pharmacist’s agreement, came off the Gliclacide, in the telephone conversation he mentioned Metformin and I told him that I had stopped taking it in March, he was very surprised, and impressed, that I had achieved the Hba1c 40 with no meds at all and I am happy with the overall outcome, but a wee bit annoyed with myself for jumping to the conclusion that the Gliclacide was replacement for Metformin when it was intended as a supplement.
I am 72 and still have a job that involves heavy manual work (working on live high voltage overhead power lines) but have started to wind down by cutting my working week to 4 days. We have an annual, very thorough, 90 minute, Company medical and the examiner said that the results would be very good for someone in their 20s, an interesting part of that was that, using the same equipment as last year, my weight loss was 3lbs more than I had thought because I had used different scales to hers when comparing, last year I had registered 13st 11lb, this year 11st 1lb, but I also measured as being 1inch taller, which she said is normal when an exercise program results in better bone alignment and posture.
All in all a very pleasing progression.
Hope everyone has the best Xmas that the current Covid situation allows.

That's to be proud of. Your medical teams sounds switched-on as well.

Have a great Christmas.
