Google 'Health Benefits of Green Tea' and you'll find a long list including weight loss, that said if you don't like Green Tea then it doesn't matter what you read as it isn't going to change your taste-buds !

I quite like green tea. Some one i used to nanny for only had roobios and i didn't like it at all, rmined me of dettol
Oh ClaireG 06!!! It is the roobios that I quite like. It has a sweetish taste to me so a little more comforting than the green.
I do like to make fresh green tea from herbs in my garden. Lemon balm, lemon grass, lime verbena and lime scented geranium are my favourites as I love a citrussy taste.

I have been drinking around 6 cups of Green Tea per day as all good for many reasons…

BUT, my levels drop to around 4 at around 4 each day and have discovered that Green Tea can lower blood sugar levels and in fact people have died from too much?

Apparently you should not exceed 4 cups per day. I intend to check further about this.

So yet again it seems - 'everything in moderation'

It's meant to help reduce high blood pressure too. I bought some Green Tea Extract capsules. Not sure how they compare with the real thing though.

Does anyone know of any compelling reasons as to why I shouldn't drink green tea as a T2?

None whatsoever!! I drink loads of it, and the green tea from Twinings with the infusions such as green Tea With Blueberry and Raspberry and green Tea With Pineapple and Grapefruit and there are loads of others. I have some with pomegranate and also orange and lotus flower which I love, and I drink quite a bit of. Enjoy your green tea it's good for you and also sin free.

Just wandering past and noticed somebody up-discussion bad mouthing Clipper green tea.

I checked, and my stash is Clipper Organic Loose Leaf Green Tea.

Which I quite like :-)

Where did you hear/read that people have died from drinking too much Green Tea? The following article (which is a good read) does promote the benefits of green tea but also finishes with a precautionary note for those with existing conditions and taking certain meds.

I drink green tea with lemon - about 8 cups a day, every day and have done for about 4 years. I must confess that the teabag just flirts with the water but as it is now the only thing I drink apart from water I am not going to stop. I can't say that is has made me thinner or helped to reduce my bs levels but even though some might liken it to 'peed in pond water' I love it! :D

I don't like green tea BUT I read a very good series of articles from decent research and testing programs on green tea. Whereas strong coffee INCREASES insulin resistance, Green Tea REDUCES it reasonably significantly despite the presence of caffeine. Unfortunately I can't find the study now, but it was a proper scientific study by eminent scientific bodies with sensible conclusions. So drink away if you like it!

Hi noblehead

I didn't mean to scare anyone, as my levels dropped low a friend mentioned could it be the amount of tea I was drinking?

Found on medical research pages on the net, but you are right to say if you have existing conditions. As we know it has great healing properties but can react with certain drugs.

An extract follows:
"…green tea has become well known for its cancer-fighting properties. Numerous studies have found that one of its antioxidants, EGCG (Epigallocatechin 3-gallate), helps shrink tumors and decreases some of the side effects of chemotherapy. But this very same antioxidant causes a dangerous interaction with a class of chemotherapy drugs.

A team of researchers at the University of Southern California (USC) found that EGCG cancels out the anti-cancer action of Velcade (bortezomib), a chemotherapy drug used primarily to treat multiple myeloma, rendering it useless…"

So Green Tea is superb but if taking other drugs or any medical conditions perhaps check with your diabetic nurse/doctor first.

Since cutting down to max of 4 cups, my levels have stopped dropping so low.
