Hello Stroopwaffle How are you doing?
Thank you for asking and for the good wishes, it is very much appreciated. I'm pleased to say I'm doing a bit better.
I was diagnosed with suspected non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy in my eye, which is what was responsible for the damage to my optic nerve and caused the shadow on the lower half of my vision. I also had background retinopathy and maculopathy.
In the months since, I have been taking supplements, including lipoic acid, lutein, B12, n-acetyl cysteine and magnesium taurate. I am also up to 43lb of weight loss.
There has been an improvement in my vision, which I wasn't expecting, I was primarily trying to stop anything similar afflicting my other eye. I can now read text with the damaged eye, which I could not do before. I understand only about half of people get some degree of recovery with this condition, so I have been lucky there, although maybe the supplements and weight loss helped.
I think last time they checked, there was still background retinopathy, but there was no mention of maculopathy, which is also hopefully a good sign.
So I have a bit more positivity, but I know I must keep doing good things - the weight loss has stalled for the past couple of weeks and I really need to knuckle down there - and definitely not slip back into bad habits.
Can I also wish you the very best for the future. It sounds like you are trying to do the right things with controlling your sugars and doing more walking.
