Hello Stroopwaffle How are you doing?
Have you tried ringing the Macula Society in the Uk for advice... I found they were so helpful.
I've also had eye problems and am having my second of 3 eye injections for macula edema (swelling at the back of eye) next week.
It was frightening how quickly my eye sight got worse. But the first injection really improved things and gave me hope again.
I have had conflicting diagnosis of right and left eye. One said wet macular the other said dry. No one will talk to me about what is going on in my left eye as they are only treating my right eye. Which is a pain because I don't want to drive or report to DVLA until I can give a proper report to them. Anyway. I'm working that out.
The A&E eye consultant said that some of the eye problems were probably there at the height of my undiagnosed time which weakened the blood vessels.. and have appeared now. He said the most important thing was to control Blood Sugar and keep it stable and within range... but he didn't know much more on that side of things.
As my blood sugar was up and down all the time... I decided to try a CGM whilst the injections are going on.. I can't afford to do it full time.. but I would if I could. Im also doing more walking etc. and have got a walking pad, so if my BG is high at an odd time, I can hop on for 10 mins.. Only arrived this week so I will see how it goes.
I do think that feeling anxious and stressed makes a difference too...(although the eye problem was extremely stressful) so I'm looking into how to work on that.
I just want to be able to drive again and keep my independence.
I also am keeping my Type 2 a secret from most people. Particularly those who are likely to criticise. I don't need their comments or off the cuff "advice."
I was at the dentist ( I had to tell him because of the meds) and the Hygenist said to me "Is it weight-related" I couldn't believe it. Another form of Fat Shaming I guess. Im a stone and a half overweight.
Im also vegetarian and struggling with low carb because I've been told to reduce cholesterol. Just trying to think how I can keep going with it whilst we are on holiday where I can't control my food as much. I think it would be easier if it were just a matter of calories. But I think the CGM sensor will help.
Hope you are doing ok.
