Hey all!
My name is Leo and I am T1D from Helsinki, Finland. Soon to be 25y old and I have had diabetes for 23 years now. I used pens until age of 16 and after that I have had insulin pump. I am the only one in my family that has T1D. Since it's not genetic I have had some really hard times to accept the situation as it is.
However staying positive and not being alone with T1D has got me through those times. I am very familiar with my bloodsugar levels but I keep checking it at least 5-6 times/day. Freestyle libre has been helpful with that eventhough it was a battle to get it here in Finland.
I am active at testing new things to easier and more affective way to treat T1D. Small group at University of Helsinki is launching a clinical tests this year for needle-less option to test your bloodsugar levels. I am also taking part to that test group and I have high hopes for that. It is connected to fitness tracker so there will be no need to use needles. For me it's routine to test bloodsugar levels at least 5-6 times/day but having that kind of option hopefully gets every new T1D or everyone else to follow up their bloodsugar levels more actively.
I am glad to be part of this forum and have already found great and interesting topics here.
Best Regards,
Leo
