Hello!
I'm Mary and after 20 years as a type 1 diabetic I have recently graduated to pump therapy using an Animas 2020 pump. This is the start of the seventh week and I becoming more confident in using the pump features - varying the basal rate to stamp on rising BG's or lift them back up as necessary. After some difficulties with Inset II infusion sets I am now using the Inset 30's; much better. You can actually see that the cannula is located under your skin and not wrapped over it as happened on one occasion with the 90 degree variety; then the first you know about it is when your BG rises above expected levels and you have to start all over with a new set. I'm open to questions on my choice of pump and accessories. Mary

Hello Mary and welcome to the forum. :)

This is a brilliant resource and it sounds as if you have much experience to add. :D

Welcome Mary! :D

Try posting this in the Insulin Pump section of the forum, I am sure somebody will offer you some advice/suggestions.

Nigel

Hi Mary,
Wecome to the forum. Plenty of pumpers here to answer your queries.

Catherine.

Hi Mary, I have been type 1 for 64 years, but did not start pumping until June, 2007. I have found that my carb ratios and my insulin sensitivity vary throughout the day. My ratios vary from 4 to 7, depending on time of day and the season. My sensitivity is typically 12 (one unit lowers my BG 12 points), but while sleeping my sensitivity is 30. That is a big difference!

Have you encountered any variations like this?

Um, that puts my 20 years into perspective. Interesting range of variations to cope with. I'm still fine tuning my basal rate but I do not think I have that degree of swing to allow for.
