Went to the cinema yesterday (first time for ages) and was frankly dismayed by all the junk food. The literally wasn't a single thing for me to eat. It was all just manufactured junk. In fact, my wife bought me a coffee, I asked for white, but instead of a White Americano, which is industrial sludge with a spot of milk, I ended up with a latte, which is milk with a grain or two of coffee. In summary, a white coffee is latte. If you want what I consider a white coffee, you have to ask for black with a touch of milk - which of course is white coffee - at least in our house!
It's similar everywhere, where the food (!?) on offer is supposed to be a 'treat' - on a visit somewhere for example - but it's pure rubbish.
Motorway services are much the same, though if you root carefully through M&S or Waitrose, you can find some unprocessed, or less processed, meat or cheese - or some water with a respectable sell-by date.
But....... I did come across a 'Good Breakfast' in a service station last week. A step in the right direction I think; yes, plenty of calories, but not buckets of glucose that sloshes straight to the old retinas.

I'm always surprised if I run into a salad at a Comic Con or something... Lots of people eating junk food all around me, but I had my little ceasar with plenty of chicken breast this weekend. It's funny how excited one can get when you find real, actual food that's not carb-laden. I always feel like those unlikely women smiling at their salad in those stock photo's no-one believes for a second, when I'm hugging mine.

Ha Ha hello Jo small world. When I went to the pictures as a child there was an ice cream from the usherette or a hot dog? Mmm those were nice!

Now there is a good selection of rubbish in cinemas. Young people have no rules yet. They go there to eat rubbish. And in the UK the days of a coffee and sandwich or Wimpy are long gone. They look at you blankly if you ask for a coffee.
It is a minefield for the unexpected and will probably herald worsening health conditions. Mind you, the films are better! Wistfully remembering those carefree days. when buckets of popcorn had not been invented.

Old age brings forth a host of rules I am afraid.

Take your salad sandwich in with you?.

Agree. I have learned to ask for an "americano with milk" if I'm not having a espresso or macchiato. You have to know the code. Asking for cream instead of milk gets you funny looks (but not cream) in most places.

If you rule out anything sugary (including fruit) then almost everything available to eat seems to be bread-related - sandwiches, rolls, wraps. 90% carb(?) with a bit of filling, and therefore isn't going to be eaten by me. Cheap to machine produce and handle, obviously, and a nice profit margin. I've found that I can put together a meal from M&S salad (if you throw away the sugary dressings they insist on using) salami, olives and cheese.

Otherwise it's the much preferable greasy spoon option, where bacon and eggs can usually be available all day. I did try to order the "all day breakfast" somewhere recently, to be told they stopped doing it at 11.30. No irony detected.
