Hi all I’m on week 7 of my minimed insulin pump & g4 sensor. I’ve just switched on SmartGuard & everything is going well. The one thing that’s driving me nuts & making me stress out is the g4 sensor & it’s unreliability. It keeps disconnecting for no reason, falling off even with special patches I’ve ordered to keep it on & I’ve just gone for a swim & the pump is telling me to change sensor even though it’s still in place. It’s starting to really wear me down. I know there’s a new one coming but it can’t come quick enough! Has anyone else had these problems with the g4?
Yes, there are some Guardian 4 sensors that have issues. I struggled quite a bit my first couple of months with 780.
I speculate it’s an issue with production and that Medtronic is trying to correct it. I’ve had a few instances where my NEW sensor went straight from Warm Up to Sensor Updating to eventually hours later Change Sensor! That’s infuriating to me. Especially, when it’s midnight. Yesterday, I had one of those days. And, another one 2 weeks ago. They promise to replace them, but they are out of stock! I’m in US.
But, despite the issues, most of the time things go well and the 780 keeps me in great range. I’ve never had such good numbers. So, I’ll do whatever it takes to maintain.

I would imagine swimming is going to affect the adhesive. Mine stays on snug, but I don’t swim everyday. First, I wash skin with mild soap, rinse well, dry well, then wipe my arm with alcohol, let it dry, then after inserting the sensor, attach the adhesive that comes with the sensor. THEN, I attach the transmitter and put a different kind of adhesive film over the transmitter. It’s about 3 x 4 inches SmithNephew IV frame, but underneath that, I apply Skin Tac. This is not Medtronic’s recommendation. I just find it helps me.
Where dobyou put your pump when you’re swimming? If it’s too far from the Sensor/transmitter, that could be causing the Sensor to fail because it thinks it can’t find the signal. Can you try to keep the pump close by when you swim?
