After weeks and weeks of Dawn Phenomena aka liver dump the Sugar Santa gave me a DP free Christmas morning. I woke up with a reading of 4.3 then ate a few Brazil nuts hoping to prevent DP (which I do very often but doesn't usually work) then I had caffeinated Tassimo Costa coffee with double cream (first time I've had drink with caffeine in about 10 years) then I snaffled three of my husband's breakfast chipolatas. An hour later I was feeling a little odd so tested and found myself at 3.6 - which was an EXCELLENT excuse to eat half a dozen of my fresh cream rum truffles (made with 85% chocolate). I am now testing at 4.6. :)

Now, what made the difference? Was it the nuts, the sausages or the creamy coffee with caffeine or a combination of all three??? Whatever it was it was a very nice Christmas present.

Did you eat a few extra carbs, yesterday?

I find that my fasting bg is usually a bit lower if I do that. But I don't necessarily think it is a good thing, because it means I have come out of ketosis.

Recently found out about something called physiological insulin resistance, which explains it.

Happy Christmas Brunneria :)

Nope, no extra carbs yesterday. In fact yesterday was reasonably low at 19g carbs. I did have a supper last night after work but it was low carb (smoked salmon and cream cheese mousse and some king prawns fried in butter).

I am definitely in ketosis today.

I hope it's not the caffeine.

Physiological Insulin resistance - what's that?

I'm a bit concerned now. Just before Christmas dinner my BG went down to 3.4 despite eating quite a few of those choc truffles and picking at nuts. I then ate a HUGE dinner: roast rib of beef, roast parsnip, maple syrup glazed carrots, broad beans, sprouts, yorkshire puddings, proper gravy made with flour washed down with two large glasses of wine. I then felt overly full up and tired like I used to when I'd eaten a lot of carbs yet 90 mins later and my BG on my normal machine is 3.9 and on backup machine is 4.3.

Anyone got any ideas?

Back to normal today. I'm thinking that it must have been the caffeine somehow. When I'm feeling brave I will replicate what I did yesterday morning to see if it happens again. :wacky:

Just thinking: I wonder if, in the interests of science (replicating yesterday morning exactly) whether I can persuade my husband to buy me more lovely presents to open.

Probably not. :(
