I would soften this a bit, the article doesn't say it leads to diabetes etc but that it increases risk.

I kinda think it’s the other around, I was having serious gum issues that suddenly went away once I got under control. Could have been because I quit eating so many sweets too.

As a survey of one, since my BG has reduced to non-diabetic levels, my gums are much healthier. (T2 controlled with diet only).
