Hello
@JCBBFC27 I see my dentist twice a year for a scale and polish to avoid peridontitis which is directly linked to diabetes, unsure if you're aware but running high levels is a direct cause of this, hence why poorly controlled diabetes will ultimately mean tooth loss.
When I was diagnosed type 1 I wasn't told by my health care team of this and it's only because I do have periodontitis that I became acutely aware of managing my diabetes as well as I could as well as maintaining excellent dental hygiene to avoid it progressing, poor control can affect blood supply to the gums as well as contribute to build up of plaque, so flossing and brushing are vital, but avoid mouth washes as they kill both good and bad bacteria.
Unsure of healing times as i've had this for a few years now and it's not got any better, however with the above practices it's also not got worse, so imagine it's something you have to live with once you get it, but that's my personal experience.
