Hi
As a Diabetic of 10 years I know many complications are something that comes with the condition, all I wanted to ask is what are people's experience with Gum disease such as blood sugars, healing time, which form of gum disease as there is different stages, unfortunately I was diagnosed with stage 3 gum disease (periodental) a few months ago. In my experience I feel my gums are very slowly healing after the scaling I received one month and a half ago.

Hypos, rude people, ignorance and grey days.
Hello @JCBBFC27 I see my dentist twice a year for a scale and polish to avoid peridontitis which is directly linked to diabetes, unsure if you're aware but running high levels is a direct cause of this, hence why poorly controlled diabetes will ultimately mean tooth loss.

When I was diagnosed type 1 I wasn't told by my health care team of this and it's only because I do have periodontitis that I became acutely aware of managing my diabetes as well as I could as well as maintaining excellent dental hygiene to avoid it progressing, poor control can affect blood supply to the gums as well as contribute to build up of plaque, so flossing and brushing are vital, but avoid mouth washes as they kill both good and bad bacteria.

Unsure of healing times as i've had this for a few years now and it's not got any better, however with the above practices it's also not got worse, so imagine it's something you have to live with once you get it, but that's my personal experience.

Thankyou for the reply and yes I knew both conditions went hand in hand with eachother especially with high blood sugars, my blood sugars have been under control for a couple of years now but I did have a bad term about 3 years ago until I had a insulin change, just wanted to see how other have dealt with Gum disease as it was a shock, I'm glad your case has stabilized!

As type 2, unmedicated, mine have improved significantly without specialist treatment since diagnosis and reasonably good control achieved. It was always commented on at checkups etc but no longer is.

Sorry to hear that, I hope that doesn't happen but it's not the end of the world if so. Didn't realize it was such a common condition now I've properly researched it

Great to hear, the only treatment I've had so far is scaling, he mentioned nothing on following up

I had several rounds of deep root cleaning along with routine hygienist appointments my gums have now reversed to a point that my front lower teeth move when I touch them so I guess it won’t be long
