Hi guys, I'm new to this site and basically signed up because I really need some advice!? I'm 19 and have had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 6!.. It's always been under pretty good control (not perfect) but okay! I never really had an extremely healthy diet or exercised so about 6 months ago I was determined to start going to the gym and slightly altering my diet to something a little but more healthy! I now go to the gym about 3 times a week and eat more salads, fruit and veg etc! Not a drastic change to my diet though, anyways, the last month or so iv been getting uncomfortable sensations in my stomach! And my bowl movements have been slightly irregular! Iv been feeling pretty tired and drained! The feeling in my stomach is not painful and does not make me feel nauseous, it is just slightly uncomfortable now and again when I get the feeling! .. Sometimes I almost feel like iv got a hangover without the feeling sick party! Just very sluggish and weak. My blood sugar levels have been okay not too high or not too low! I always tell people to never look up their symptoms on the internet but I didn't listen to my own words of wisdom, so when I put in my symptoms you can only imagine the horrible things that appeared! Lol .. I'm booking an appointment with my local GP to be on the safe side! But I was curious if anyone else has experienced anythinglike this or know what it could possibly be? At first I put it down to the exercise and improved diet but I don't feel as though after 6 months of this new lifestyle would I be getting these symptoms! .. Any advice or tips would be extremely appreciated! :)

Hi @Kellyx,

Your doing the right thing getting a check-up at your Dr's, but well done for making those lifestyle changes and hope they find the cause of your symptoms.

It could be your "improved" diet. There are some things that are generally healthy, but your body doesn't tolerate them. I rarely eat processed foods, for example. I cook from scratch every day. But I cannot eat chick peas or palm oil because they both give me Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Palm oil is in most processed baked goods, ice cream and chocolate, as well as most peanut butters. So it encourages me to avoid processed foods, and I am really careful about peanut butter (only good old SunPat for me).

So it could something like that for you. For example, nuts and seeds generally are considered healthy, but they really are hard to digest for a lot of people.

Oh thank you so much that's so unbelievably helpful! Iv been eating a lot more things such as seeds and nuts and chick peas other type of beans etc! I might try stop eating them for a while and see if there's any improvements! Xx

The best thing is to add them in one by one and wait a week after each addition. It can take a few days for the offending item to work its way down to the part of your gut that it irritates!
