The whole bananas, rice white bread, apples, (known as BRAT) etc. diet is dire for type 2s. Every one a glucose spiker, which then makes me feel even worse than the virus did.
Having experienced the norovirus, food poisoning (thanks Xmas party) and another rather nasty tummy bug in recent years, I now ignore all that BRAT nonsense. I have no intention of disrupting my body's healing with high blood glucose.
Instead, I start with that traditional standby of Chicken Soup. Works like a charm.
You can make your own (v easy) or buy a fairly non-carby one.
Either way, much better for you than carbs.
Blitz it with a hand blender.
Then over time, you can add in a few well cooked veg, and leave the chicken in lumps, and then ease back onto solids.
