I had various allergy and auto immune issues most of my life, and I can recall around 35 years years ago discussing this with the doctor and getting blood checks for excessive white cells, around every 7 years there was some other strange body swerve reaction and so it went on most of my life, gradually progressing. Everytime I figured out one reaction or issue, then another would crop up. Nothing life threatening, until I got to the anaphylactic shock reactions to garlic which is liberally added to all sorts of foods these days (came on around the age of 40'ish). All I ever got out of the doctors to any investigation or test was "you are within normal range!" and I could not get them to give me any letters of referral so I could get any help under my private medical, Not helpful at all. Then suddenly at 56, pow, very ill, diabetes type 2 diagnosed, metformin (reacted badly to that of course), so progressed quickly to Keto-acidosis and on to a stint in hospital emerging with TYPE 1 and on insulin. No rhyme or reason and no family history. I was shocked so massive learning curve etc. But what I would really like to know is whether there are many others out there that have had similar issues in life with allergies and auto-immune and ended up getting diabetes later in life, like me?

Great thread question.

For me, an allergy to penicillin, arrived shortly before T2DM and hayfever after it. I may be mildly lactose intolerant too as I get indigestion and stomach cramps with milk now, but not cream, butter, ghee or cheese.

Husband's sister is lactose intolerant and he has NCGS. My mother in law is T2DM and she has developed both lactose and gluten intolerance this year and was pretty sick.

I am the opposite way round really, diabetic at 10 months old, hypothyroidism at 15, lupus and sjogrens at 20 (also epileptic since about 5), i believe they are all interlinked.

My sister also developed diabetes at 5, and about 20 years later no has pernicious anaemia.

My mum has had hypothyroidism for many years and then also developed pernicious anaemia.

Waiting for myself to develop pernicious anaemia now lol
