Was a very strange visit and with a different man. I asked why diabetics are advised not to drink coffee and he didn't know. I asked him what he thought of low carb and he said Atkins is dangerous. I then repeated my question with the emphasis that it is not Atkins and he said that as I am in the early stages my body will probably cope with it ok :?
He then asked if I had a diet sheet and rushed off in excitement to get one. He came back with a lovely blue sheet telling me to eat plenty of starchy carbs and avoid sugar, when I pointed out it wasn't low carb and my body doesn't appear to cope well with low carb it wouldn't really work. He shrugged and said that was the standard advice and my diabetic nurse would tell me more. I told him i didn't have a diabetic nurse and he didn't answer.
He then told me about a new drug that is out that would help me with my weight loss [can't remeber what it was but it was something like PGB1] but then said i couldn't have it as I am controlling my BS too well and so the NHS wouldn't pay for it. He said if I ever go off the rails though i will be entitled to have a go. Overall he was pleased with my progression and said he will see me once more and then sign me off as I seem to know what I am doing and he is sending me on the DESMOND course which I think was the only good thing to come out of the whole thing!!

Hi Samcogle
It is about right! most doctors endo's think just give the diet sheet! Don't want to listen that you are low carbing!
I know it sounds weird! but luckly my doctor and diabeties nurse that i see monthly say that i am doing well with my low carbing! Strange thing is i am waiting to see a endo shortly!

I think I'd have asked him what they pay him not to know anything. I'm getting quite militant in my old age.

Sandy maybe we can swap as our surgery appears not to have a diabetic nurse :)
Hana I have to admit I used to sit quietly in front of any doctor assuming that they are the experts....d[ but have to admit I thought I was quite a pain in the **** to him I think [didn't think of your quick retort I have to say] :)
I ended up saying it didn't matter what he advised really as I was going to continue what I was doing anyway and he smiled...hey ho.
