Went to my doctors this evening to get my wee results, the good news everything was ok,the down side he said I had to start taking the Metformin which I had tried to put off but to no avail,he said yes diet is beneficial but you need to treat the actual condition. So tomorrow I am starting the Metformin 500mg SR 1 a day then need to go back in 4 weeks.
On the plus side he gave me a new GlucoLab and 50 test strips.
Thanks for listening.View attachment 8928

A great tip Dr told me was to take the metformin with food, like half way through your meal, that way it's gentler on the tummy. with the slow release you should fine.
Hi sanguine thanks for the info,I will still be watching what I eatHi Snowy, no the meds don't make any difference to what you can eat, they will just help you with your BGs and low carb diet. Keep testing as before (do you know how often you can get new batches of strips?).
Sadly, many T2 diabetics assume that medication allows them to carry on regardless. I know you won't be one of them.
Thank you for replying and for your good information.Just to clarify the doctor said I still had to diet so cannot eat lots of naughty foods,he felt that I needed the medication now.Hi. Yes, carry on testing. Test 2 hours after a meal to find out which foods affect you most. If you can afford the strips test just before the meal as well to measure the change. Don't worry about morning fasting tests. No, you can't eat what you want; sorry! The Metformin helps a bit but only a bit. It is at it's best if you are overweight with insulin resistance. It is important to keep the carbs right down and this is where I disagree with your doc as diet is the most important thing for us as well as exercise. You can be free with the protein and fat but just watch the carbs; the meter will guide you. Good luck and come back with more questions.
