Went to my doctors this evening to get my wee results, the good news everything was ok,the down side he said I had to start taking the Metformin which I had tried to put off but to no avail,he said yes diet is beneficial but you need to treat the actual condition. So tomorrow I am starting the Metformin 500mg SR 1 a day then need to go back in 4 weeks.
On the plus side he gave me a new GlucoLab and 50 test strips.
Thanks for listening.image.jpg

Well done you snowy! Your lchf regime will pay off and in time you will be able to cut back on the meds....but for now...behave.

Hi snowy12, that's actually really good news. Lots of successful people on here have started off taking medication to help them, then managed to get total control by diet and exercise. Think of the metformin as a stepping stone to get you where you want to go and even better your on the slow release kind :)

Glad you got the strips and moniter,I wasnt so fortunate,
Good luck with the metformin,It took me a while to get used to them, but we are all different,I am on 1x 500 mg.
I believe there are lots of benifit taking them,
Let us know how you get on x x

Hello Snowy! Love your name! :)

That's good news. You're actually lucky your doctors prescribed test strips and starting you off on SR metformin. A great tip Dr told me was to take the metformin with food, like half way through your meal, that way it's gentler on the tummy. with the slow release you should fine.

Agreed 100% .. at least in my experience

Wow, that's good that you were given test strips and a meter Snowy :)

@Snowy12 as you state "For Every Negative There Is Always A Positive."
Sounds as if you have a Doctor that is a cut above the rest, even to go back in 4 weeks shows how caring they are towards their patients.
I know that you are a positive person that will soon learn of the advantages from Metformin.

Good Morning Everyone,Thank you All for replying,I have a great doctor he has always been there when needed and always takes his time not like some like when I was first diagnosed give you you prescription and off you go,which did happen to me as my doctor unfortunately for me but nice for him was on holiday.
He straight away without prompting gave me the slow release which I have read on the forum that they don't cause the toilet problems which I wanted to avoid spend to much time in there as it is without having to deal with that one.
Have to agree i was lucky getting the meter and strips,I did ask for the strips which he said no problem then just before I left gave me the meter and said we like you to use this one,no problem I said.
So today is the day I had my breakfast then half way through stopped and took the advice to take the table which I have now done and went back to my breakfast.
What I really now need to know is number 1: Do I carry on testing as normal. 2:Just because I have been put on meds this does not mean I can eat what I want.
Hope you are all well and @Clivethedrive behave what ever made you think I wouldn't lol.

Hi Snowy, no the meds don't make any difference to what you can eat, they will just help you with your BGs and low carb diet. Keep testing as before (do you know how often you can get new batches of strips?).

Sadly, many T2 diabetics assume that medication allows them to carry on regardless. I know you won't be one of them.

Hi. Yes, carry on testing. Test 2 hours after a meal to find out which foods affect you most. If you can afford the strips test just before the meal as well to measure the change. Don't worry about morning fasting tests. No, you can't eat what you want; sorry! The Metformin helps a bit but only a bit. It is at it's best if you are overweight with insulin resistance. It is important to keep the carbs right down and this is where I disagree with your doc as diet is the most important thing for us as well as exercise. You can be free with the protein and fat but just watch the carbs; the meter will guide you. Good luck and come back with more questions.

Hi sanguine thanks for the info,I will still be watching what I eat
just as before,to answer your question regarding the strips I never actually asked however this will be my question when I see him next time, but I do have the DN in 2 weeks time so shall also ask her,I did get the sharps box free from the council.
Take care Andrea.

Thank you for replying and for your good information.Just to clarify the doctor said I still had to diet so cannot eat lots of naughty foods,he felt that I needed the medication now.
Keep Well Andrea.
