Hey,

I was diagnosed with T1 about 10 weeks ago. My levels have been very high since i was diagnosed, they have slowly coming down. There usually between 12 and 15 and my docs have been trying to get them down. I'm on levemir and novarapid. They upped my levemir to 18 in the mornings which has been grand for the last weekend have noticed that my levels have really come down.

Then today i didnt do or eat anything different, kept to my routine. When my son was going down for his nap, i was feeling tried so i lay down for an hour. After about 10 minutes after getting up, i started getting sweaty and feeling really weird. I thought i was having a hyper but it felt different to the usual ones. So my partner took my level and they were 3.2 which was shocking to be honest as my levels have never gone below 9.

I drank some coke and had a few biscuits and felt fine afterwards, although admittedly we panicked and didnt know what to do!! It will be the last time my partner nicks my emergeancy can of coke from the fridge!!

So has anyone have any tips etc that i will need to know! A first timer at all of this!!

best treatment for a below 4 is 15g quick acting carbs (x5 glucose tablets or x5 fruit pastilles or one of those mini cans of full fat coke) then re-test after 15 mins to make sure the quick acting is working. If your BG hasn't changed or has dropped, treat with 15g quick acting again. When you see that your levels are starting to go up again (this usually happens after the first 15g!) then have 15g slow acting, a biscuit, slice of toast, etc. I can't tell you the amount of times I've over treated a hypo due to extreme hunger or plain old fear!! but if you can avoid reaching for the chocolate bars, it's for the best as helps to stop the swing to a high BG 8)

Thanks for that! I had soem coke and wen my levels started coming back up i had a few biscuits.

I was soooo hungry after my hypo. Is this normal?

pretty much!! different people will have different symptoms but hunger is a pretty common one :? If you can, try and remember that 15-20 mins later the hunger will pass, it's like fake hunger, your body just needs to treat the hypo so it's telling you to feed it!
