Hello. I have just had my first blood test result since diagnosis in July. In July my level on the A1c was 58. It is now 44. I was pleased with this as a starting point. I'm taking 2 metaformin each day. Do you agree it is a good start?

Well done Mo, nice one...........

@catherinecherub Thank you. I thought it was a good start but wasn't sure so thought I would check on here. I didn't want to delude myself

Thank you @noblehead and @novorapidboi26 . Thank you for your encouragement. I've been following LCHF diet for exactly 100 days (according to myfitnesspal).

My pleasure Mo, you make a good contribution to the forum and your feedback is always welcome, your doing great for someone who has only been diagnosed a short space of time.

It's a magnificent start. Well done, you have taken yourself out of the diabetic range and in to the pre-diabetic range.

So if I go under 42 next time maybe they will suggest I come off the metaformin.?

Maybe, but most likely they will want to give it until your following review to make sure you are stable. Doctors vary. You could always discuss it.

big well done Mo !! You should be proud! As for coming off metformin, I would say they may decide to leave you on it for a while to stabilise at least. I'm on forxiga, combined with lchf in 18 weeks I've reduced from hba1c of 61 to 38 ( amazingly non-diabetic level) I was expecting to be stopped my meds and was prepared to push to stay on for 3 months but surprisingly there was no question and I'm carrying on with it until my next hba1c in April

Thanks for the information @Bluetit1802 and @kimbo1962 . wow Kimbo you did brilliantly! I must admit I'm in no rush to come off metaformin yet.
I think it makes sense to stay on meds for now while still continuing this journey, still strictly lchf, wanting a bit more weight loss and keep levels down. Guess next hba1c in April could be the turning point with meds but if I feel I need it still I shall fight my corner, mainly as once I get to the point where I need to stop the weight loss I will be adding a little back to maintain-and wouldn't want the levels to start going up again!!

well done mo53
Any reduction is good I would guess
My a1c dropped from 142 to 46 in 3 months
Hope to get into non diabetic range next time.

yes Kimbo I'm the same. I would like to lose another stone and a half. the metaformin helps with the weight loss. well done @brettsza . that's fantastic

I have read everywhere that met helps with weight loss but I am on the other hand gaining weight, I did loose about 7 to 8 kilos while I was still probably diabetic but not got the tests done so basically gained all that back and settled into 75 to 77 range.
