Hair disappearing on legs...

Evening all

Approx 3 or 4 months before I was eventually T2 diagnosed, both my legs below the knee were losing and in fact have lost 80% of the hair...so smooth now, a competitive cyclist would be jealous.

Wondered, anyone else have this side effect (perhaps some sort of neuropathy going on)?

There's no tingling, no pain, no numbness - just hairless....

I'm not too sure in the scheme of things when mine no longer showed....smooth as a.... I have substantial browning of skin on one shin. GP put it down to poor circulation but didn't want to do anything about.
I've always had good pulse tests in both feet, though the right foot can "feel" like a block of ice sometimes....

If you were of the female persuasion I'd ask if you were of a "certain age" as that can affect bodily hair, but nope not that ..........

Having sat in as a guinea pig for FRCP exams over a space of 33 years, it was only after 2000 that the consultant mentioned the significance of a lack of hair on the lower legs of a male being a sign of likely diabetes. I fit that category - I'm sure you wanted to know that!

If you were of the female persuasion I'd ask if you were of a "certain age" as that can affect bodily hair, but nope not that ..........

Several men I know of that age have lost leg hair.....testosterone maybe if it’s not diabetes related.

Interesting. I always put my husband's relatively hairless lower legs down to the rubbing of his wearing trousers all the time.
Yet I am diabetic and he isn't and my legs show a bear like heritage.

Have you @BRSBRI changed what you wear routinely, perhaps due to lockdown?

Yes. Shorts, joggy bottoms or loose fitting things. On work video calls they only see my top thankfully...

When I had my first appointment with the podiatrist after diagnosis 7 years ago she commented on my hairless feet. She said it was common in diabetics due to poor circulation in the lower limbs. Hope this helps.

I too have heard of poor circulation resulting in hairless feet , I have alopecia but not total , and I know my picture displays a bald head but I can grow a full head of hair , I have said this before , my left eyebrow is virtually away but my right one Is like a caterpillar ( not a good look ) , my belly is hairless as is my chest if I grow a goatee it has bald bits in it , I went to doc he diagnosed me with alopecia, he said you’ve got one auto immune disease not surprised you have another , I’m not saying this is the same in your case , oh btw my knees are more hairy now than they’ve ever been , and don’t get me started on my ears I could knit a jumper with what I have in my lugs ,the joys of being human and getting old , maybe a good time for you to get on that bike hehehe

Nasal hair here - now that needs a strimmer.
