Hi all!
I got diagnosed with T1 about a month and a half ago and since my blood sugar is so high I'm on 30 units of Apidra Solostar on the daily.
Since about 3 weeks I've noticed an immense amount of hair loss and I'm concerned and worried. Is this normal for a beginner? I'd there a solution? Please help!

Hi @farheen123,
You probably need a medical opinion.
But my guesses are that a shock to the body such as onset of severe diabetes symptoms might upset the hair growth cycle so that no new hair is growing to replace that falling out.
Second, with loss of sugar, salts from the body and loss of weight nutrition to the cells in your scalp growing hair may have suffering leading to hair loss.
A side-effect of your injected insulin is another possibility.
Best Wishes on recovering!!

Don't worry it should be fine. I was diagnosed T1 four months ago with very high blood sugars and I also lost tons of hair. After I normalized my blood sugars it stopped, but it took a couple of months for the body to adjust. It's not very nice, but in the end of the day it's just hair and it will grow back.
