Hi Juju82, yes I did. I began to lose hair at an alarming rate just before being diagnosed and for a couple of months after. Thank fully it stopped and to this day I don't know if it was caused by my high bg levels or the stress of knowing something was wrong. I also bought Pantene breakage defence shampoo in the hope it might help. It probably doesn't, but I'm sticking with it.........

I luckily have really think hair but like you said the rate it's coming out at is quite alarming! Will try that tho thanks

I thought I had hair loss long before I was diagnosed. Thankfully I found every strand of it... it had just migrated from my head to my back. ;)

Yes! I have very thick hair, but it was falling out more than usual prior to my diagnosis. Since starting Metformin and watching my carb intake, it is now minimal.

Hi Juju82,

I was diagnosed 9 months ago and at the time my hair was falling out massively and in not great condition! My hair was thick and curly so I found it a bit upsetting along with everything else I was feeling at the time. I cut my hair short so that it would help things along, I have been surprised since then my hair has started to grow back with new curls, still early stages though. My diagnosis type 1 insulin dependent, so I'm thinking something must be working!!:)

type 1 since I was 4 yrs old I don't remember much about my hair or if my parents really noticed anything....... quite some time ago now!! lol however I do have very thin hair where the rest of my family don't but there is still plenty of it!!

Oh, so sorry to hear that, I know it's a terrible thing when your hair gives you such problems additionally to all the things that are coming with being new to diabetes.
Just after diagnosis I realized my hair started to fall out in large amounts and it go to look very bad. I went to my hairdresser and she confirmed, the hair in the back of my head fell out, while the part from the front got to be much thinner. She told me to go to the specialist hair doctor, but for different reasons I couldn't. But after a while (now it's 7th month after the diagnosis) it got to be better and I can see my hair is stronger, not falling so much anymore.
I'm T1 on insulin.
I hope it will get better for you too very soon.
