Hair thinning

After being diagnosed with T2 diabetes last year, I decided to follow a low carb diet, and I walked everywhere. I lost a lot of weight very quickly and my blood was last read at 37, which is great. But in the last couple of months I have noticed my hair has become extremely thin and it's like new hair is growing through. Has anyone else experienced this please?

Hi this not an uncommon side affect of low carbing. I noticed it about 6 months in. There is a very good shampoo and conditioner called Nioxin (got mine on Amazon after recommendation from my hairdresser, btw it smells lovely) which helps and also the B vitamin Biotin. I used both and it did eventually improve but it did take about 6 months. Inow take a good quality B vitamin which includes Biotin daily.

Same here. My hair thinned quite noticeably on keto. It’s restored itself over time.

Thank you so much for your advice. That makes me feel a lot better. I will try the shampoo and B vitamins.

Look up telogen effluvium. Any big change emotionally or physically can cause temporary hair loss a couple of months after the event. A drastic change in diet, exercise and blood sugars certainly seem common causes in this forum and on many low carb/keto groups I’m in.
I had it pretty bad and now have a decent amount of regrowth.

Me too. Hair suddenly thinned. Was panicking thinking it was thyroid problem or similar. Suddenly, I noticed that it was thicker. It took several months, to change, but when it did, it was very noticable.

There have been discussions in this before. My hair was thinning quite dramatically but since levelling out my BG it seems to have stopped , although not back to where it was. Thus may however be due to age and something ladies of a certain age suffer from.
Nioxin as mentioned is often available in TK Maxx but do the online questionnaire in Nioxin website to find which number is for you. Biotin can help too.

Thank you. I have just read about telogen effluvium, it was really useful and would make sense that this is what is causing my hair loss.
