I have the NovoRapid disposable pens. I've seen other versions online which allow half units to be dispensed. This would be so useful for me - I often wish I could give myself NovoRapid in half unit increments as I am so sensitive to it at the moment and only need very small amounts. How do I go about getting one of these pens? Are they still the disposable type or do you have to refill them? I'm completely clueless about what to do - do I ask my DSN? or assume my GP needs to prescribe them?

Thanks for any advice.

HI. You need the NovoPen Echo. These pens take the usual 30ml Penfill cartridges but do 1/2 shot increments. I use one of these for my Rapid and a standard NovoPen 4 for my Basal. Your GP ought to be able to prescribe one. You can buy the pen yourslef but your script would need to change to Penfill cartridges.

I use NovoRapid Cartridges, non disposable pen, penfil 3ml and It's a tremendous help to me  I asked my GP.
Good luck.

I recently made the move to 1/2 u pens. Your GP can prescribe the NovoPen Echo and 3ml Penfill Cartridges, and if you are already using NovoRapid, this won't be an issue. I just had mine prescribe me a spare Echo after getting one from the Diabetic clinic.

Like others i also use the Novo Pen Echo for half units and the Sanofi Junior Star for half units of Lantus. Both pens work fantastic! Talk to your doctor about getting one or both if you still want Lantus.

I also really prefer these pens because they are re-usable, which means that the refill cartridges aren't full sized pens, they are just the glass bits and take up FAR less space in the fridge and in a bag when travelling, since you aren't storing entire pens.

Highly recommend re-usable pens, even if they aren't half unit ones for that reason as well.
