Hi

I was diagnosed in December 2012 with T2. Am on 1 x 30mg gliclazide a day. Am doing my best to low carb. Have lost weight, although not deliberately! Was 8st 4oz and am now 7st 5oz (am petite tho, only 4ft 9in with very small feet, hence the name). Have recently been getting numbness in my fingertips on my right hand. Is it possibly related to diabetes or maybe just the cold weather Should I ask the practice nurse about this or am I just being paranoid. Have got appointment for blood test on Weds, wondered whether I should mention this or not.

Yes, of course mention it to your nurse and get it on record. She may also be able to answer your question about it being related to diabetes. Good luck.

Thanks Squire.

Don't know how much the nurse will know as she isn't a specialist diabetic nurse but will at least get it on record as you say. She didnt appear to be very knowledgeable about diabetes on my first visit but perhaps i'm being a bit critical and maybe she will improve as time goes on.

If your practice nurse is unable to answer, which I doubt, then ask to see your GP for referral to a specialist. Numbness should never be ignored and you may end up having nerve conduction tests to hone a diagnosis.
The quicker a proper diagnosis is achieved, the quicker a treatment plan can be put into practice

I have same thing in right hand, my diabetic nurse thinks it carpel tunnel syndrome rather than diabetic neuropathy. My GP now has me on naproxen and I also sleep in a splint to stop the nerve being trapped. Both have helped alleviate symptoms - for now. My symptoms were always worse in the night or mornings. Hope this helps

I found this too, shaking them vigorously for a few seconds (no idea why) since my sugars normalized though with my current regime its kept at bay.
