Happy!!!

Well done Josie!

Hope I can report back similar improvements in the spring - I'm getting a pump in January.

What pump are you using?

Sam.

Nice one Josie and long may it continue! :)

Hi Shedges

i am using an accu-chek spirit combo. It useful to me cuz it comes with a remote i can lock the buttons on the pump and use the remote. Then my very nosy 3 yr old cant push any buttons cuz he thinks that it only be used by the remote.

Good luck with yours!!!!

Josie

Well done, that's brillient news indeed...

And as you've not been using the pump long, they will still improve as you build up your pumping experience so it's not such an experiment/guess work to tackle a new situation etc...

I'm having my HbA1c done next week, and as it stands with my general calculations I do, I'm looking at a HbA1c in the 5's.. So got my fingers crossed

Well done you

Hi Jo

Why are you hoping for an a1c in the 5's? Isn't a high 6 much better and safer in the long term especially regarding driving a car?

I’m not on any active mission for the 5% club, I’m more than happy to have a HbA1c in the 6% range it’s just the way it’s all panning out for me..
As I always say look after the day to day control and the HbA1c will look after themselves, which seem to be happening for me...
I managed on a daily bases to maintained a good tight range to my control, normally ranging from 4.3mmoml/l to 7mmol/l or there about, it rare for me to have an hypo, if I do then I’m picking them up at 3.8mmol/l and I can generally explain why it happened, such as playing a game of darts after something like 15 years, and well I hadn’t anticipated polishing the coffee table that I inherited would either take so long (hadn’t been polished except the top for about 20-25 years) or drop the blood glucose levels so quick...

As to the driving, well this is well monitored, at the moment I’m only really driving locally so know that as long as my levels are between 4.5-5mmol/l then I’ve no problems, but if I find myself at the 4.5mmol/l range and I haven’t had a meal or snack in the last ½ hour or so, then I will have a biscuit or a couple of jelly babies before I go..

Mind you did I have not only a long drive but a long day out going to a companion dog show in September, so meant driving up the motorway for 1 ½ hours, but turned the insulin pump down, so that I was 6mmol/l and checked frequently (before hitting a service station or junction) and my BG didn’t move much at all, highest was 6.5mmol/l but didn’t drop below the 6 mmol/l I actually did really well, not one reading above 7.5mmol/l all day, and motorway driving went without a hitch both ways... The only hitch was a delayed hypo at 2am, which Ellie my German Shepherd hiked me out of bed to treat.. I now know that after a long day of driving, I’ve got to turn my pump down over-night as well...

It’s just shear experience of knowing when to turn my pump down or even up, which is the best bolus program the length of time to use it, which makes all the difference in daily control and maintains some pretty impressive tight control around 96% of the time..

Thanks jopar You have been supportive to me through the whole pump thing and i was quite pleased with myself when my dsn told me....come to think of it she was quite happy as well!!!!!!!

I hope you get your 5's on your next one.

To ihs.....The last time I was in the 5's with my a1c was 3 yrs ago when i was pregnant....since then it has been a constant struggle to have good control which is why i am over the moon about it coming down...as to driving I dont! so no problem there!

Good luck jopar let me know if you get itx
